Alfred PISANI, born about 1867, aged 34 years, married, Domestic, serving on HMS Surprise in 1901

Alfred PISANI, born in Valletta on 2nd September 1866, joined the Royal Navy and given the service No. 139062

Antonio PISANI, born on 24th September 1878, joined the Royal Navy and given the service No. J93121

Calcedonio PISANI, born in Hamrun on 16th September 1870, joined the Royal Navy and given the service No. 157926

Carmelo PISANI, born 15th May 1844, serving on HMS Lord Warden in 1870

Dominico PISANI, 354731, born in Senglea on 23rd April 1875, boat builder. Joined the Royal Navy in May 1896 on board HMS Astraea as a Bandsman. In 1898 he became a member of the Carpenter’s Crew on board HMS Theseus, and then a Shipwright. He served on several ships and was still in the Navy in April 1920

Emanuele PISANI, 362729, born in Valletta on 26th December 1884. Joined the Royal Navy in August 1904 on board HMS Implacable as a Domestic, but left at his own request in July 1905

Francesco PISANI, born about 1832, Commander’s Cook, married, aged 29 years, serving on HMS Hibernia in 1861

Joseph PISANI, 362785, born in Marsa on 10th November 1872. Joined the Royal Navy in July 1904 on board HMS Cornwallis as a Domestic, and made the Navy his career. He became an Officer’s Cook and served on several ships. He was still in the Navy in June 1915

Michele PISANI, born in Valletta on 4th February 1868, joined the Royal Navy and given the service No. 141973

Michele PISANI, died 20th January 1918. He was an Officer’s Steward travelling on the Armed Boarding Steamer HMS Louvain, which was torpedoed by the German U-boat U22 in the Aegean Sea. Aged 47 years, the son of Maria and Carmelo Pisani of 117 Strada San Gaetano, Hamrun

Nicola PISANI, J95026, born in June 1893 in Gozo. He joined the Royal Navy as an Able Seaman on HMS Egmont II in February 1918 but left the service in March 1919

Paolo PISANI, K57994, born in Valletta 22nd October 1899. Joined the Royal Navy in 1919 as a Stoker on board HMS Aquarius

Salvatore PISANI, 359060, born in Valletta in February 1880, a carpenter. Joined the Royal Navy in December 1900 on board HMS Melita as a Domestic, but left the Navy in March 1903. After a long break he re-joined as an Officer’s Steward on HMS Argyll in December 1913 but left at his own request in January 1915

Saverio PISANI, born in Kalkara on 18th February 1867, joined the Royal Navy and given the service No. 160316

Spiridione PISANI, born in Vittoriosa on 11th June 1899, joined the Royal Navy and given the service No. J95344

Vincent PISANI, 354592, born in Valletta on 7th February 1877, messenger boy. Joined the Royal Navy in February 1896 on board HMS Nile as a Domestic. He served on several ships and left the Navy in May 1900

Vincent PISANI, 360407, born in Valletta 8th September 1880. Joined the Royal Navy in 1902 as a Domestic on board HMS Formidable, and made it his career. He became an Officer’s Steward and served on several ships. He was still in the Navy in 1916

Vincenzo PISANI, born on 7th November 1850, joined the Royal Navy and given the service No. 44359

Vincenzo PISANI, 94974, born in Valletta on 10th June 1841. Joined the Royal Navy in January 1876 on board HMS Hibernia as a Domestic, but left in September 1876

Vincenzo PISANI, born about 1835, Carpenter’s Crew, aged 26 years, married, serving on HMS Medina in 1861

MERCHANT NAVY

Carmel PISANI, died 15th September 1941. He was a F & T on the Newbury, a merchant ship of around 5,200 tons. It was carrying a full cargo of coal when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat south-east of Cape Farewell, Greenland, in the North Atlantic, and sank with the loss of the total crew of 45 men 

Charles PISANI, died 12th December 1942. He was a Donkeyman on the 2,272 ton merchant ship Knitsley. His ship had left London and was sailing up the east coast of England bound for the Tyne when it was hit by a torpedo fired by a German Motor Torpedo boat. Their position was off Lowestoft. Twelve men lost their lives 

Giuseppe PISANI, died 16th September 1939. He was a Boiler Attendant on the Aviemore, and lost his life when his ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the North Atlantic about 220 miles south west of Cape Clear, Ireland. After being hit by two torpedoes his ship sank immedately. This was the first time in World War II that a convoy had been attacked by U-boats. Eleven survivors were picked up by the Royal Navy 

Salvatore PISANI, died 2nd October 1941. He was a Cook on the Empire Wave, a newly completed armed merchant ship, which was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the North Atlantic, about 500 miles south of Cape Farewell, Greenland, on 2nd October 1941. 29 men died including the Master of the ship. 31 men were rescued and taken to Iceland
