Pisani families have long been leaving the shores of their native land to seek a better life abroad. No different to the millions of other families around them taking the giant leap of faith, they form part of the rich migratory cultures and histories of countries such as Australia and America.

While emigration happens for many reasons, it can be said that there is a key aspect that has driven much of the outflow people from places such as Italy and Malta over the last couple of centuries - Poverty.

Many landed at places like New York, Sydney and Cairo in the hope that they were able to see a glimmer of light in their future, if only to provide for their families through steady work and roof over their heads. Some failed to make it, others didn't even get the chance to try, but in all the desperation, strife and determination of those people are what stands as the bedrock of families for centuries to come. I am lucky enough to have that kind of history on both sides of my family, and I strive to be a testament to my ancestors - showing that it was all worth it.
